Why Astera Care?

Most people prefer to stay in the comfort of their homes as long as possible, regardless of their abilities. Families try to accommodate this desire but are forced to evaluate their environment, health concerns, their unique situations and economic conditions.

Astera care will help you find solutions to your needs; however please do your research and choose wisely!

Below are values we provide:

1.               We perform criminal background checks on all staff

2.               We manage our entire staff and are responsible for the hiring, firing and disciplinary actions

3.               We find substitutes in a timely manner  if the current caregiver is sick or  unable to work

4.               Astera Care provides additional services such as on call 24/7 for administrative needs.

5.               Astera Care insures and bonds our caregivers.

6.               We are responsible for the worker compensation, payroll tax and all caregiver benefits.

7.               We’ll do the paper work! We will bill your private or long term insurance which may cover your costs.

8.               Astera Care will match caregivers to the specific needs of our clients by providing tailored matches.

9.               We provide counseling to ensure a smooth transition throughout the caregiving process to maintain quality service and control.

Your role when you hire caregivers yourself:

You are responsible to educate and familiarize yourself with the industry. Although you can hire who you think best fits the job, the paper work is overwhelming.  Since you are an employer you have to verify the caregiver’s legal status (make sure your caregiver is a legal immigrant); have her/him fill out all of the necessary federal and state paperwork. You will likely be required to pay their social security and Medicare taxes and some unemployment taxes too! If you pay the caregiver more then $1000 a quarter you will also likely need to pay their unemployment, worker compensation and short-term disability insurance. You also will have to protect your assets against employee related injuries. Does your potential employee have a criminal background? What about a poor worker’s compensation history? These are questions you will want answered before you hire anyone to work for you. You will need to review your homeowner insurance and (or) auto insurance policies to ensure proper coverage.

Bottom line: Before you hire privately – do your research and be prepared!
